Mykel Williams is the Pick!
I know in previous articles I mentioned my excitement about Jihaad Campbell and Kennith Grant, but the Niners went in a different direction, and honestly, I’m pumped about it. Kyle, John, and Robert are the experts here, and this pick just feels right on every level.
Jihaad Campbell on the Eagles 🤯
I have to get something off my chest - Jihaad Campbell falling to the Eagles hurts. That defense, already the best in the NFL, just became even scarier. The Eagles are on an absolute roll, and the rest of the NFL really needs to stop gifting them these blue-chip prospects.
Why Mykel is the Fit
Mykel was a three-year starter at Georgia, competing week-in, week-out against the best talent college football has to offer. Georgia consistently produces elite NFL talent, and Mykel fits right into that mold - he’s an elite talent with a very high ceiling.
The main knock against him has been his sack totals - just 14 over three seasons. Sure, that’s not exactly eye-popping, but if you watch his tape or glance at his combine stats, it’s crystal clear he’s a physical freak of nature. Robert Saleh and Kris Kocurek clearly believe they can unlock his pass-rushing potential.
Adding to that, Mykel mostly played inside at Georgia in the 4-I and last season he played hurt. Hurt and still dominated. He could have hung it up, but the kid loves football and wanted to be on the field with his teammates. He’s a football player and that kind of player is what Kyle and John loves.
Mykel already brings to the table is elite run-stopping ability and the strength to consistently set the edge. And I mean ELITE. He’s dominant against the run, which is precisely what we needed - a big, physical edge defender opposite Bosa, who’s equally strong at containing the edge. This is crucial in the wide-9 scheme.
We drafted Mykel for his potential to grow into a formidable pass rusher, fully knowing he’s already an absolute beast against the run and strong enough to give NFL offensive tackles nightmares.
I seriously can’t wait to see what this kid does next season! The draft is off to a good start for the Niners.
