45 Million is the Correct Offer.
Yeah, I said it. The 49ers offer to Brock Purdy is the right one. These guys on TV - “OH MY GAWD, THE DISRESPECT!” - just shut up. I’m looking at you, Emmanuel Acho. You’re talking like an ex-player, and it shows.
The main argument that he deserves more money than other QBs who have gotten paid. QBs like Tua, Kyler, Herbert, Lawrence, and a bunch of others who haven’t accomplished as much as Brock. I’m not arguing with that. But I will argue that the teams paying those guys are also idiots, and I don’t want the Niners following suit.
Let’s look at the top 10 QB salaries:
Rank | Player | Team | Average Annual Salary |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Dak Prescott | Dallas Cowboys | $60,000,000 |
2 | Joe Burrow | Cincinnati Bengals | $55,000,000 |
2 | Jordan Love | Green Bay Packers | $55,000,000 |
2 | Trevor Lawrence | Jacksonville Jaguars | $55,000,000 |
5 | Tua Tagovailoa | Miami Dolphins | $53,100,000 |
6 | Jared Goff | Detroit Lions | $53,000,000 |
7 | Justin Herbert | Los Angeles Chargers | $52,500,000 |
8 | Lamar Jackson | Baltimore Ravens | $52,000,000 |
9 | Jalen Hurts | Philadelphia Eagles | $51,000,000 |
10 | Kyler Murray | Arizona Cardinals | $46,100,000 |
In my opinion, only three guys on that list are actually earning their money: Burrow, Lamar, and Jalen. The rest? Overpaid. Especially Tua, Love, Lawrence, and Dak.
Josh Allen is making $43 million a year. Brock is not - and never will be - Josh Allen.
Look, I love Brock. I’d love to see him make more than he does now. But anything over $45 million? That’s nuts. At that point, we’ve got to move on. He’s small, he gets hurt, he can’t win in cold or rainy games. Bottom line: He’s not carrying you, so don’t pay him like he will. Save the money and invest in the trenches.
“But he’s an elite processor!”
Stop. $45 million is a ton of money. The QB market is a joke. If you’re not capable of carrying a mediocre team on your back, you’re not worth that huge, cap-eating money. It’s that simple. It’s time to reset this stupid market.
