First, Congrats to the Kansas City Chiefs

Amazing game. Sincerely. Even though we fell short I can’t sit here and act like I spilled my milk. What a great game - I’m actually looking forward to watching it again. Did some things not break the Niners way? Sure. You can say the same for Kansas City. This was a clean game, well referee’d, with two clearly great teams trading blows all the way through overtime.

The Chiefs won this game. We didn’t lose it; they won. They’re great. Mahomes is amazing. Kelce is amazing. And those defensive backs for Kansas City are ridiculously talented.

Am I sad? Of course. Am I a baby about it? Hell no. That’s life. Great game, Chiefs. It will be hilarious if both teams run it back a third time next year.

The Online Dialogue

The discussion around this game is so damn toxic. “Purdy sucks”. “Shannahan chokes”. Blah blah blah blah. Fans of teams who also fell short - teams that always fall short. It’s laughable.

Anyway…

The discussion around Purdy is dumb. The kid played well. He didn’t play great but he played well. He played well enough to win and that’s all I ask for. Now, saying that, the discussion around Shannahan is the dumbest shit ever. I hear it from all fans and media right now (including Niner fans): “He chokes”, “He can’t win when it counts”, blah blah blah blah.

Let me ask you one question: How many coaches in the league would anyone take over Shannahan? The only correct answer is 1 - Andy Reid. We’re so fucking spoiled being Bay Area sports fans. Kyle has the Niners constantly contending every damn year. The Golden State Warriors had a dynasty and with the rise of Kuminga we look poised to make another run and if you’re a Giant fan we’ve won 3 World Series in the last 14 years. As a Giants fan I’m fine if they never win another - what a fucking run!

Stop being so spoiled. Kyle is an amazing coach and isn’t going anywhere. Just be glad you root for a franchise that cares. Most don’t and almost all of them would kill for the success we’ve had regardless of it not resulting in taking home the Lombardi trophy.

What’s Next

Who knows. This team is still stacked. We’ll improve via FA and the Draft and we’ll take another swing at it next year like the 30 other teams who didn’t win it this year.
